Cozy season is right around the corner, and I’m the type of person who celebrates fall early. The second the calendar hits September, I’m hauling out the bins of decor, swapping iced coffee for steaming tea, and convincing myself that sweaters are totally practical, even if it’s still 75 degrees outside.
That’s why I made this September bucket list filled with cozy, intentional ways to welcome fall before it slips by. From apple butter to candlelit movie nights, here are 28 cozy things to do this September to make the most of the season.

1. Make apple butter. Slow-cook apples with cinnamon and brown sugar until your kitchen smells like autumn itself. Spread it on toast, pancakes, or just a spoon.
2. Bake your first apple pie of the season. Even if it’s store-bought crust — it still counts.
3. Create your signature fall drink. Chai with real spices, hot chocolate with cayenne, or a PSL with extra whipped cream — just make it yours.
4. Make a cozy soup from scratch. Think butternut squash, roasted tomato, or creamy wild rice.
5. Bake bread on a rainy day. The perfect excuse to finally buy that sourdough kit you’ve been eyeing! Nothing beats the smell of fresh bread while it pours outside.
6. Try a new-to-you seasonal produce. Delicata squash, honeycrisp apples, or fresh cranberries.
7. Host a soup or chili night with friends. A big pot, cornbread, flannel, and laughter.
8. Start a nature collection. Pinecones, colorful leaves, smooth stones and display them in a bowl as seasonal decor.
9. Plan a surprise picnic. Pack thermoses of hot drinks, a thick blanket, and invite your friends.
10. Go thrifting for fall clothes. Hunt for chunky knits, vintage scarves, and cozy coats.
11. Go apple picking at a local orchard. Grab a basket, wear your boots, and take more photos than you’ll ever need.
12. Take a golden hour walk. The fading sun paints everything in honey tones, making the simplest stroll feel magical.
13. Do a weekend foliage drive. Roll down the windows, cue up the playlist, and let the scenery steal the show

14. Swap your summer candles for warm, spicy ones. Scents like amber, cedar, or apple clove = instant cozy.
15. Rearrange one room for coziness. Add a plaid throw, shift a lamp, or tuck in more pillows.
16. Start a gratitude jar. Drop in little notes about the joys of the season, big or small.
17. Make a list of fall movies and series. From Gilmore Girls marathons to spooky October flicks, curate your cozy lineup.
18. Start a mini fall garden. Plant herbs like sage, rosemary, or thyme indoors to flavor cozy meals.
19. Start a seasonal journal. Fall is the perfect season to cozy up with a notebook and pen. Capture your thoughts, reflections, or cozy little details you don’t want to forget. If you’re not sure where to begin, check out our guide on how to start journaling.

20. Press flowers and leaves. Turn them into bookmarks or frame them — summer preserved as fall begins.
21. Try a seasonal craft. Fall’s the perfect time to learn something new like knitting, sewing, painting or starting a DIY project that feels cozy and handmade.
22. Host a puzzle night. Light some candles, pour wine or warm cider, and tackle a cozy fall puzzle with friends or your partner.
23. Pick a book to read this fall. Choose one that feels like flannel in book form.
24. Take yourself on a solo coffee date. Order a seasonal drink, bring a book, and soak in the cozy café atmosphere.
25. Make a fall vision board. Cozy textures, dreamy goals, and warm palettes to inspire the season ahead.
26. Host a potluck dinner party. Everyone brings a dish that says fall to them — you’ll be surprised by the variety.
27. Donate clothes and home decor you don’t love anymore. Create space for new cozy pieces while helping someone else.
28. Mark the autumn equinox (September 22). Light candles, cook a seasonal meal, or simply watch the sunset in gratitude.
Here’s the thing about bucket lists: they’re not about doing everything, they’re about remembering to do something. Light the candle. Bake the bread. Thrift the sweater. Take the walk at golden hour. Those are the tiny rituals that turn September into a season you’ll remember.
So whether you check off five things or twenty-five, let this list be your invitation to slow down and soak it all in. Cozy season only comes once a year, and this one, with its particular mix of moments, won’t come again.
Grab a blanket, circle your favorites, and make your September magical! ☕️
